We have two opportunities to join our team Stock role and despatch

Stock Role

Are you highly organised, detail-driven, and passionate about horticulture?

Howard Nurseries is looking for a new stock person to look after our extensive stock plants collection.

We are looking for a person with horticulture experience who is willing to take on this task ideally for 5 days a week.

It will include a lot of outside work, planting, looking after and digging up these plants.

You will be supplying our Propagation, Splitting and Container departments with plants for propagation or potting.

You have to be self-motivated as you’ll be working alone a lot of time, and also be able to work in a team when bigger projects are undertaken.

Ideally you would have a PA1 and PA6 certificate or must be willing to follow a course to gain these. We work with beneficial insects were possible but pest, disease and weed control are part of the job. You will also need to be able to drive a tractor to take and bring back plants from the field.

Outline of, but not complete list of, jobs to be done

Planting every 3 years new stock beds for cutting material.
Looking after (spraying, hoeing and cutting down) the cuttings beds every year.
Planting and looking after (spraying, hoeing and cutting down) the field stock plants every year.
Supplying Propagation department with plant material.
Supplying the Splitting department with plant material.
Supplying the Container department with plant material.
Collecting and looking after seeds at appropriate times and looking after the plants that produce seeds.
Spot spraying, cleaning and disinfecting container beds.
Disinfecting propagation trays for re-use.
Pest and disease control both chemical and with beneficials.
Liquid feeding as and when appropriate.
Looking after the spray shed and implements. Under supervision of lead sprayer
Appropriate administration of the stock.

Despatch Role

Despatch - Duties will include preparing plants for transport by cleaning, counting, and packing plants into boxes, pallets, or trolleys, so they reach our customers in the best possible condition. Working on your own or in a team.

Full-time and part-time position considered. Interview date to be arranged.
